Apple reached a deal with EU regulators to open up the mobile payments system to rivals

After a four-year probe, EU antitrust investigators recognized Apple's vow to offer rivals access to its tap and go payments system.
"The commission has agreed to accept the commitments made by Apple. These promises resolve our early concerns that Apple may have improperly hindered competition in mobile wallets on iPhones," EU antitrust commissioner Margrethe Vestager said at a press conference.
In 2020, the European Union formally initiated an antitrust probe into Apple Pay.
It determined on Thursday that Apple's final promises answer concerns about the tech giant's restrictions on enabling third-party vendors access to NFC payments in stores for some customers.
